excessive food not sold

In order for us to reduce waste we should embark on a project where all supermarkets selling fresh food should donate the extra food left at the end of the day instead of throwing it away (if still in edible condition). Such donations could be made to institutes, NGOs and other rehabilitation centres. This will help us reduce waste while at the same time helping out those in need. This idea has already been proposed in France which was quite a success!
