Causa Mortis Tax

Causa Mortis Tax

A proposal by the Gonzi administration had suggested that the Causa Mortis on the demise of a loved one should be abolished. This idea was so that families do not become poorer by losing their wealth. The tax should be borne by the purchaser should the inherited immovable property be sold. Instead, a tax should be imposed on developers and speculators.

Points

My mother passed away 6 months ago. I find myself paying taxes on a garage which has had been handed down in the family and yet there I am having to pay yet another 1,100 Euros. This is so unfair. Death is taxed as well.
