Healthier lifestyle - subsidising healthy food

One of the highest costs for the government is the provision of free health service. The diet followed by many in Malta does contribute for this high cost. Unfortunately, healthy food, such as fruit and vegetables are quite costly. Therefore the government may strongly subsidize such products for people coming from different levels of the society to consume.

Points

Such diet will minimize the need for the public health service. Funds for subsidies on healthy food may be obtained through taxes upon high fat food. This will minimize the intake of such products and maximize the consumption of healthy food, impacting directly the need for public health service.
